The Ranger's Apprentice - Book 2 - The Burning Bridge

Will is an apprentice ranger to Halt, the ranger of Castle Redmount. Nothing much has happened since the first book, but Moragath has not been idle. Moragath's Wargls and slaves have been making a tunnel and a bridge so that the enemy get through the impassable mountain range between them and the kingdom of Arulan. When Will, Gillen and Halt go to investigate the nearest town they find it wiped out and all of the people either captured and dead. They go on to the next town and its the same there. Then they find a stowaway called Evelyn and Gillen and Halt go off to tell the king that the towns are abandoned. Then Horace joins Will and Evelyn, and they go near the mountain range and then they see the tunnel and the bridge. Then it is discovered by Halt and Gillen that Evelyn is princess Cassandra, a princess of the realm. Will asks Cassandra and Horace to stay where they are while he investigates the tunnel. He finds Skandian slaves there and he also finds Skandian warriors and then he goes back to Horace and Evelyn and then Will and Evelyn try to burn the bridge. However, they only set the left pylon on fire, and when Will and Evelyn go over to do the right pylon they are captured, but manage to light it. Then the king's men get suspicious and they send out their army to a plain and then they meet the army of Wargls and one of their scouts hears a plan that the enemies will send more skandians down Thorntree Valley. After the battle, Horace duels Moragath and kills him. However, Will and Evelyn are taken to Skandia to become slaves.

The thing I liked about this book was how they set fire to the bridge - it was very exciting. The part I didn't like was the description of how Moragath died - it was gross - he got stabbed in the heart by a sword. I liked it more than the first one.
